Police say two homes in Portland were burglarized over the weekend while they were occupied.

Portland police say a home on Dirigo Street and another on Brighton Avenue near Stevens Avenue were broken into between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m. on Sunday. Both homes were unlocked and the residents were sleeping inside.

The suspect stole cash, debit cards, and car keys from the home on Dirigo Street. A vehicle was also stolen and driven to the Lowell Street area where it appears it was disabled after striking a curb.

Police believe the same suspect then broke into a home on Brighton Avenue and accidentally woke up one of the residents before fleeing. A loaded handgun and the contents of wallets were taken.

Police say the suspect that entered the Brighton Avenue residence was a young, light-skinned black male.

They’re asking anyone with surveillance systems nearby to check their footage for any suspicious activity.
