BATH, Maine (WGAN) A third person associated with Bath Iron Works has tested positive for Covid-19.

The shipyard said Tuesday that the individual is a vendor who was last on site on May 22nd, but had worked there for several months. They had been wearing personal protective equipment while on the job, and two others who they recently interacted with were wearing PPE as well.

The vendor is self-isolating and receiving medical care. The two workers who came in contact with them have also been self-isolating, but have not yet shown any symptoms.

Two other individuals working at the shipyard have tested positive since the start of the pandemic. The first positive test was made public on March 23rd and the other on April 2nd. Both have recovered and have since returned to work.

The shipyard remained operational despite pleas from the shipyard’s largest union to close. The shipyard maintained that their work was essential and considered a matter of national security.
