Venerable ag fair takes over Maine’s Queen City for 10 days

BANGOR, Maine (AP)   One of the oldest and largest agricultural fairs in Maine is getting started in the state’s Queen City.

The Bangor State Fair starts on Thursday and runs through Aug. 3. The event takes place near Cross Insurance Center and usually draws more than 40,000 visitors. Organizers say it dates back to 1849.

The event is billed as an agricultural and recreational fair. The schedule includes fireworks and tractor pulls as well as traditional ag fair staples such as sheep and rabbit shows. The fair also includes a full schedule of live music, food and games.
