Victim of fatal shooting in Portland identified as investigation continues

PORTLAND, Maine (WGAN) Portland police have identified the victim of a fatal shooting on Woodford Street.

Officers responded to the area of 100 Woodford Street around 1 a.m. Tuesday after neighbors reported hearing arguing and gunshots.

They found two people in the roadway with gunshot wounds. One of them was identified as 43-year-old Derald Coffin of West Bath. He was taken to Maine Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

The other victim, a 27-year-old female, was treated for a non-life threatening injury. Her identity has not been released.

The results of an autopsy by the medical examiner had not been made public as of Wednesday.

Investigators are still looking into the circumstances leading up to the shooting. Neighbors say they heard arguing amongst a group of people before multiple shots rang out.
