Maine is seeing an increase in voter registrations with less than six weeks until Election Day.

New data from the Maine Department of the Secretary of State shows more than 5,400 people registered to vote in two consecutive weeks this month.

The state saw a spike in voter registrations this summer after Kamala Harris replaced Joe Biden on the Democratic Presidential ticket.

Registration remained steady since then, but surged again in early September.

So far, 73,169 voters have requested absentee ballots in the current election cycle, which at current pace would exceed absentee ballots in the 2022 gubernatorial election

Maine has more than 950,000 active registered voters. According to the state, 36% are Democrats, 30% are Republicans, 29% are unenrolled. The rest are either Green Independent, Libertarian or No Labels.
