Maine Game Wardens say two elderly Mainers were found safe following searches that took place in recent days.

On Monday, wardens were searching for 88-year-old Donald Harding of Dresden, who went missing Monday afternoon. Because of cold temperatures and his history of dementia, searchers canvassed the area near his home. A driver found him hitchhiking later in the day. He was returned home and didn’t require medical attention.

Wardens said they were also searching for a 78-year-old woman who went missing during a storm Saturday in Bremen. Virginia Betts had walked out of the home where she was staying that afternoon. She was found a couple of hours later in the woods by a neighbor. She was soaking wet and cold, but didn’t require medical attention. She was also safely returned home.
