A Maine fire department is welcoming its first female career firefighter.

Katie Hennessy is joining the Waterville Fire Department.

Our info partners at CBS 13 News report Hennessy will be conducting training for the next few weeks before being assigned to a regular shift. She previously worked in an emergency room, according to the fire department.
