Waterville Police Officer Shot- Suspect Also Shot


A Waterville Police officer was shot early Sunday afternoon by a suspected gunman. The suspect was tracked down in Canaan before where he was then shot as well.

Public Safety spokesperson Steve McCausland confirmed the officer’s shooting. The officer suffered non-life threatening injuries and is being treated at Maine General in Waterville.

According to our info partners at CBS 13 News, several police agencies chased the suspect until he was shot at the intersection of Route 2 and 23 in Canaan. Several police cruisers from several agencies were shot.

The Maine Attorney General’s Office handles police involved shootings and has sent a team of investigators to Canaan.

Police have not given details on what provoked the officer’s shooting.
