Two beaches in Wells that were shut down due to a sewage leak are now back open to the public.

The town said the sewer line under Wells Harbor was struck by boaters twice in the past week after its anchoring became eroded and it floated to the surface of the water. That prompted the closure of the harbor and jetty beaches as a precaution. The pipe was shut off as soon as the problem was identified and no sewage went into the harbor.

On Wednesday, the town said a dive team had repaired the pipe and added metal anchors to hold it down. There are also plans to add concrete for more support.
