SACO (WGAN) Police say a crash involving a tractor-trailer and two other vehicles on the Maine Turnpike resulted in the death of a woman from West Bath Monday night.

In a news release Tuesday morning, Maine Dept. of Public Safety spokeswoman Shannon Moss said that Maine State Police responded shortly after 7 p.m. to a crash northbound in Saco.

Moss said the initial investigation indicates that a vehicle operated by 53-year-old Deirdre Winberg rear-ended a Jeep operated by 33-year-old Alicia Preston of Portland.

The release says that Winberg’s vehicle spun out and came to a stop directly in front of a tractor-trailer, which slammed into the car.

The truck belongs to Three Lions Logistics Inc. of Andover, Massachusetts and was being operated by 36-year-old Norvel Jackson of Fairburn, Georgia.

The truck crashed through the median guard rail, resulting in the hours-long closure of all three northbound lanes and the southbound passing lane.

Police say that Winberg succumbed to critical injuries at Maine Medical Center.

The driver of the Jeep was taken to Maine Med with non-life-threatening injuries, while the driver of the truck was not hurt.

The crash remains under investigation.
