A home in Westbrook where police say children and animals were living in squalor has been condemned.

Westbrook police said they received information about the living conditions at 637 Cumberland Street on Wednesday. Inside, police found several dogs, cats, chickens, and ducks, along with children and adults, living there.

Maine’s DHHS responded to handle the children’s well-being, and animal control officers removed the animals.

Police also found a rifle and a machete inside the home, leading to the arrest of 27-year-old Lanh Huynh of Westbrook for being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm and violating conditions of release.
