School officials from Cape Elizabeth appeared on WGAN Wednesday to discuss the sexual assault controversy surrounding the high school.
Superintendent Donna Wolfrom and Director of Teaching and Learning Cathy Stankard spoke to Ken Altshuler and Matt Gagnon on the WGAN Morning News.
The controversy erupted after sticky notes were discovered in two bathrooms in the school, which accused an unnamed person of sexual assault.
Wolfrom said some students, within minutes of the discovery of the notes, took them down and brought them to administration at the high school, indicating “they were concerned about this, but also that they felt very free to come to administration.”
Stankard was asked what came of the allegation, if it was a false report or if administration shrugged it off.
“Or maybe the school investigated and their was a finding and discipline was imposed and was not shared with the student body,” Stankard said.
At a school board meeting on Tuesday, board members said policy changes may be coming and student safety is their first priority.
