Police say a 12-year-old boy was hospitalized in Washington County after getting shot by his father while hunting.

Maine’s Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife tells WVII in Bangor that the incident happened in Deveraux Township on Saturday afternoon. The agency said the father was shooting at a grouse when pellets from the shot hit the boy, who was about 25 feet behind the bird.

No names have been released as the incident remains under investigation.
