PORTLAND, Maine (WGAN) The race for Portland’s at-large city council seat will come down to the luck of the draw.

Candidates Brandon Mazer and Roberto Rodriguez were tied in unofficial results. With none of the four candidates in the race getting a majority of votes, election officials conducted a ranked choice tally Wednesday morning, resulting in Mazer and Rodriguez each receiving 8,529 votes.

Under the city charter, that winner will be determined by public lot, meaning a decision will be made by choosing something, usually slips of paper, at random.

That public drawing will take place Thursday at 10 a.m. in front of Portland City Hall.
