Winter Harbor Fire Chief faces theft, forgery charges

Winter Harbor Fire Chief Tatum McLean was indicted by a Hancock County grand jury on charges of unsworn falsification, forgery and theft by misapplication of property.

According to WVII, McLean was arrested Monday for crimes that allegedly occured in 2021 and 2022 while he was serving as part-time fire chief in Gouldsboro.

Court documents state that the 51-year-old allegedly intended to defraud or deceive another person or government of payroll warrants exceeding $1,000.

Winter Harbor’s town manager says that when she hired McLean she was aware of the investigation but didn’t know the severity of the situation.

According to WVII, he will be back in court in Dec. for a dispositional hearing.
