Heavy snow made for slick conditions for morning commuters across much of Maine on Tuesday.

An additional 5″-9″ of snow was expected to fall in the Portland area and up north to Augusta. The Turnpike Authority reduced speed limits for the entirety of the turnpike.

A citywide parking ban in Portland went into effect Tuesday night, as crews will be clearing the streets after the state’s first major snow storm of the season.

The parking ban will be in effect from 10 p.m. Tuesday to 6 a.m. Wednesday, according to a press release from the city.

Any vehicles left on the street at 10 p.m. Tuesday will be towed at the owner’s expense, the release said.

The city provides a number of designated parking areas while parking bans are in effect.

According to the release, residents can park in several locations, including the parking lots at Fitzpatrick Stadium and Hadlock Field.

The release said drivers can also park their cars in the parking lots of all Portland schools, except the Reiche School.

City officials say the designated parking areas can be used after 5 p.m., and vehicles must be removed by 7 a.m. the next day.
