BELFAST, Maine (AP) A mother charged with murder in the death of her 10-year-old daughter in Maine wants her statements to police thrown out.

Sharon and Julio Carrillo are both charged with murder in the death of Marissa Kennedy in Stockton Springs, a shocking crime a year ago that led to a push for child welfare reform.

The hearing in Sharon Carrillo’s case is expected to end Friday. A judge could take several weeks to decide whether to suppress evidence including audio and video recordings.

Her attorney says she is a domestic violence victim whose husband coerced her before she made statements to police shortly after Kennedy’s death.

Detectives assert they followed proper protocols.

Both Carrillos have pleaded not guilty and could face two separate trials.
