Woman Charged with Killing Ex-Husband Changes Plea to Guilty

ALFRED, Maine (AP)   A Maine woman charged with killing her ex-husband by stabbing him in a driveway has changed her plea to guilty.

Forty-eight-year-old Kandee Collind entered the guilty plea to the charge of intentional and knowing murder at York County Superior Court on Monday. Her attorney says Collind wanted to spare her children a potentially traumatic trial.

The Biddeford Journal Tribune reports a plea agreement caps Collind’s sentence at 32 years. Sentencing is scheduled for Nov. 19.

Authorities say Collind stabbed Scott Weyland in front of their children in his Acton driveway after learning that Weyland was given custody of their children. The stabbing took place in February 2017, the month the couple’s divorce was finalized.

Collind’s trial had been scheduled to begin on Sept. 17.
