Woman struck and killed by train in Portland

Portland police say a woman was killed by an Amtrak train while trying to the cross the railroad tracks early Tuesday morning.

Police say the 43-year-old woman was homeless and living in the woods in Morrills Corner for several weeks. She was crossing the tracks between Allen Avenue and Read Street at 12:30 a.m. Tuesday when she was hit by the train and killed.

Police have not released the woman’s identity pending notification of next of kin.

Anyone with information about the incident is being asked to call Portland police
