Worker injured in accident at construction site in Hampden

HAMPDEN, Maine (WGAN) Maine State Police say a construction worker was critically injured after getting pinned beneath construction materials in Hampden.

Police say it happened along I-95 around 9:20 Tuesday morning when several steel sheet pilings fell off of a truck as they were being loaded. 50-year-old Eric Jabbusch of Turner became trapped underneath them and suffered critical injuries. He was taken to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor to be treated for his injuries.

The site is part of an ongoing Maine Department of Transportation project to replace interstate bridges. Cianbro is the contractor for that site, but the injured man works for a subcontractor, H.B. Fleming out of South Portland.

Cianbro has suspended work on the project as they review safety protocols and investigate the incident.

Federal officals with OSHA are working with State Police as the investigation continues.
