Helping Maine’s Horses

Danny Martignetti interviews Peg Keyser, Advancement Director of the Maine State Society for the Protection of Animals (MSSPA), about the organization’s recent expansion and rehabilitation efforts for horses. The MSSPA has built a new eight-stall barn, funded by a successful capital campaign led by the McCulloch family, which now houses 45-50 horses. The barn includes four paddocks and seven acres of fencing for quarantine and intake. Horses receive comprehensive health exams and individualized rehabilitation plans. The MSSPA relies on volunteers and does not charge for adoptions, ensuring thorough follow-up and support. An upcoming event, Focus on the Farm, will feature local photography and a silent auction to raise funds.
