Maine Points: SARSSM

Since 1973, Sexual Assault Response Services of Southern Maine has provided free services in York and Cumberland counties to anyone affected by sexual assault, sexual harassment, or sexual abuse. They have four programs, including:
● Our Helpline and Outreach Services program, which operates a free, private, 24-hour crisis and support line which can be reached at 1-800-871-7741, as well as text and chat services, community outreach and support groups.
● A Sexual Assault Response Team, which provides advocacy, resources, and support for survivors who are navigating systems such as law enforcement, court processes, medical care, etc. That program also works to train community service providers in order to strengthen our community’s response to sexual violence.
● Next, we have our Children’s Advocacy Center of York County, which provides a child-friendly environment where law enforcement, child protection, prosecution, mental health, medical and victim advocacy professionals can work together to investigate suspected or alleged child sexual abuse.
● And lastly, our Prevention Education Program provides school and community-based prevention education across York and Cumberland Counties, including training teachers and other school personnel.
