The city of Portland is looking to address the issue of childcare shortages by opening a new childcare facility in the city.

There’s a proposal to lease a seldom used building on the Barron Center Campus on Brighton Avenue to a licensed childcare provider.

CBS 13 reports that on Tuesday the proposal will be discussed during Portland’s housing committee.

Leaders say that the goal is to have a center for kids aged 5 and under.

It would serve residents of the city and city employees.

This would also be an opportunity to help recruit and retain workers.
