Bowdoin College Protest

Matt Gagnon discusses the Bowdoin College protest organized by the Bowdoin Students for Justice in Palestine, which began on February 6 when students set up an encampment in Smith Union, renaming it Shaban al Dalu Union. The protest aimed to address Israel’s actions in Gaza and the lack of institutional support for a student referendum against Israeli government investments. Despite administrative warnings and suspension threats, the protest persisted for several days. Gagnon criticizes the administration’s delayed response and the students’ disruption of the school’s operations, advocating for immediate suspension of protest leaders. He concludes that the protest ended only after the threat of expulsion was made.
