Congressman Jared Golden

During An Appearance On WGAN Wednesday Morning, Congressman Jared Golden  Discussed Efforts To Protect The Endangered North Atlantic Right Whale And It’s Impact On Maine’s Lobster Industry. He Reacted To The Discovery Of A Dead Right Whale Off Massachusetts Last Month. The National Oceanic And Atmospheric Administration Says The Whale Was Entangled Near Its Tale In Rope Consistent With Gear Used In Maine Waters. Golden Said It’s A Good Thing Maine’s Delegation Secured A Six-Year Reprieve From New Federal Regulations On The Lobster Industry As Part Of The Omnibus Package Passed By Congress In Late 2022

He Said,” This Is An Endangered Species,” And “People Have A Right To Question Whether Or Not It Will Ever Recover Or Survive.” He Asked If Saving The Right Whale Was Worth Destroying Fishing Communities Up And Down Maine’s Coast.

He also Talked About The Conversation In Augusta About Ways To Prevent Another Tragedy Like The Lewiston Mass Shooting. Late Last Month, Governor Janet Mills Proposed A Background Check Expansion That Requires Criminal Background Checks Prior To Any Advertised Private Gun Sale. Golden Doesn’t Think That’s Enough To Move The Needle..

Golden Is From Lewiston. Immediately After The Shooting, He Changed His Stance On The Issue, And Called On Congress To Ban Assault Rifles. Meanwhile, The Lewiston Shooting Commission Continues To Review The Events Leading Up To And Following The October 25 Shooting Spree. During The Commission’s Last Meeting, Members Of The Maine State Police Defended Their Approach In Searching For The Gunman.
