Matt speaks with Dan Lampariello, Investigative Reporter with CBS-13/Fox 23 on their I-Team Investigates.

I-Team Investigates: Water Utility Security

For years, cyber security experts have warned about how vulnerable critical infrastructure, like water, is to hacks. A recent EPA analysis of water utilities across the country backs that assumption up.

Data shows 70% of water systems inspected by the EPA were in violation of basic federal requirements to protect them from cyber security threats. Maine isn’t an outlier by any means. A recent phishing scheme targeted water utilities across the state this summer.

Their investigation will look at how these agencies are working to harden their critical infrastructure and what could happen if a water utility in the state falls victim to a hack.

Airs TONIGHT 6PM on CBS-13 and 10PM on FOX-23.
