Start saving for the holidays now. Set up a holiday/Christmas club account. Have the money automatically transferred from your checking account each week. Even with just $10 a week will give you $520 at the end of the year and help you avoid charging expenses.

Boost your retirement savings. Try to save as much as your employer will match. Do it gradually by increasing your savings by 1 or 2% when you get your next raise. You won’t even miss the money.

Save for something. You will be inclined to save more when you have a specific goal or something you are saving for. A new car. A vacation. The washer and dryer that are on their last legs. Set up a special account and give it a name. Then set up an automatic transfer each time you get paid to that account.

Delete your automatic billing information. Online shopping can be quick and easy. Too easy, sometimes. Removing your credit card information from favorite online shopping sites will make you think twice before your buy.

Unsubscribe from your favorite stores and online retailers. Out of site, out of mind. Minimize the spending temptation.
