Paid Family Medical Leave

Matt Gagnon discusses the Maine Paid Family Medical Leave law with Jessica Picard from the Maine Department of Labor. The law, effective January 1, 2023, requires payroll contributions from employers and employees, with benefits starting May 1, 2026. Employers must set up accounts in the paid leave portal by April 30, 2023, and remit contributions. Employers with fewer than 15 employees only need to collect employee contributions. The law covers all private and public sector employees, including part-time and seasonal workers, self-employed individuals, and tribal governments. Application details will be announced in early 2026. For more information, visit maine.gov/paidleave or call 207-621-5024.
