AUGUSTA, Maine (AP)   Maine police and warden officials were in the capital city to dedicate the names of the officers who died in the line of duty last year.

Nathan Desjardins is the most recent name added to the memorial in Augusta, with his death last June from a head injury while he was attempting to rescue a capsized canoer. The Kennebec Journal reports Cpl. Eugene Cole was also honored at the event Thursday, following his fatal shooting in April.

Cole’s death was so recent that his name will not be added until next year. Cole was the first Maine police officer to be fatally shot in nearly 30 years.

Relatives of both men attended the ceremony, which included a 21-gun salute by seven members of the Maine State Police.
