Traffic Snarled on Turnpike After Dump Truck Hits Overpass in York

YORK, Maine (WGAN)  State Police and the Maine Turnpike Authority say they are assessing the damage to a bridge overpass on the Maine Turnpike after a dump truck hit it Friday morning.

Police say the crash happened at the Clay Hill Road overpass at mile 12 on the northbound side around 7 a.m.  No one was hurt.

The impact sheared the dump body off the truck and it landed in the roadway.

Police say the driver, 52-year-old Robert Pilot from Wales, told them he didn’t notice the dump body was elevated.

The wreck closed down two of the three northbound lanes for 2.5 hours.

Police say a car behind the truck was damaged by some debris, but the driver was uninjured.
