One person is dead after a police chase along Route 26 in Gray resulted in a car crash Friday night.

According to CBS 13, Cumberland County deputies and Androscoggin County Sheriff’s office responded to reports of a vehicle driving recklessly near the Oxford Casino around 10pm.

Police say the driver, now identified as 30-year-old Nicholas Leibowitz of Plymouth, struck multiple vehicles before continuing on at speeds over 90 miles per hour.

Attempts to stop the vehicle failed but the driver eventually hit another car on Shaker Road before crashing into a telephone pole and trees, causing his vehicle to barrel roll several times. Leibowitz died at the scene.

An injured dog that may have been hit by Leibowitz was found nearby and brought to Gray Animal Control.
