1 killed, 1 hurt in southwestern Maine motorcycle crash

SHAPLEIGH, Maine (AP) A motorcycle crash in southwestern Maine killed a passenger and seriously injured the operator.

Police say the single-vehicle crash happened on Friday in Shapleigh. Fifty-one-year-old operator Olaf Nordmann, of Springvale, was taken to Maine Medical Center for injuries, and 27-year-old passenger Marisa Standly, of Springvale, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say they’re still investigating the cause of the crash. They say witnesses reported the motorcycle traveling north and veering off a short shoulder into a group of trees.
