1 man found dead after fire destroys off-grid home in Sumner

Crews found one person dead after fire destroyed an off-grid residence in Sumner.

The Maine Fire Marshal’s Office says crews were dispatched to the fire around 5 p.m. Wednesday on Valley Road after a caller reported seeing flames from a distance.

Firefighters had to use ATVs and pickup trucks to get to the fire, where a man was found dead outside of the structure.

His body was taken to the medical examiner while an investigation continues.
