143-mile detour in place due to road damage in Jackman

A single culvert is the reason for a 143-mile long detour in Central Maine.

MaineDOT said Tuesday a section of Route 6/15 in Jackman was closed after half of the road and part of the shoulder was washed away by two days of heavy rain.

Those looking to get to and from Jackman have to take Route 201 to Bingham, connecting them to Route 16 in Abbot.

MaineDOT says nearly 800 vehicles use that section of road each day, and many of them are trucks.

It wasn’t clear how long the detour would be in effect. The department said Tuesday crews were working to fix the road as quickly as possible.
