YARMOUTH, ME- The 57th annual Yarmouth Clam Festival is a vibrant celebration, drawing crowds from near and far to partake in a variety of activities and culinary delights. Booths filled with colorful banners proudly represent different nonprofits, each offering Maine treats that range from steaming bowls of clam chowder to freshly shucked oysters and the famous Maine lobster rolls.

Families like the Kittredge’s, whose tradition crosses four decades, gather eagerly to savor their favorite festival foods alongside the lively atmosphere. “Lobster rolls, clams, Lime Rickeys,” exclaimed Olivia Kittredge, describing the craft of the festival’s culinary delights.

Yet, it’s not just about the food. The festival excites with community spirit and charitable actions. Across from the main festivities, the nonprofit Time to Compete is hard at work at Brickyard Hollow Brewing Company, raising funds in honor of Gibson Harnett, a beloved member of the community who lost his life to cancer earlier this year. Brad Moll, a president of Brickyard, expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support from the Yarmouth community, noting how the festival serves as a place of community and generosity.

Meanwhile, the event also features engaging activities like the celebrity clam shucking contest, where local media personalities such as CBS 13’s Ryan Munn and Stephanie Grindley stepped up to the challenge, followed with humorous results. “I’ve never shucked clams before,” admitted Grindley with a laugh, as the duo tied for last place after managing to shuck only 13 clams in the allotted two minutes. WGAN’S morning show host Matt Gagnon and Producer Danny Martignetti participated in the challenge as well coming in 4th place overall.

For Tessa Dugan and others who aren’t particularly fond of clams, the festival offers plenty of other entertainment options, ensuring that everyone can find something to enjoy among the festive atmospheres. Whether it’s browsing through artisan crafts, listening to live music, or simply soaking in the community conversation the Yarmouth Clam Festival continues to be a cherished tradition that brings people together year after year.
