An 82-year-old Maine man faces charges after police say he hit a 13-year-old girl with his vehicle in Eliot and left the scene.
The Eliot Police Department says officers were called to a report of a girl found unconscious in a ditch on Worster Rd. at 3:50 pm Wednesday. They say preliminary information indicated that she was struck by a vehicle.
Officers say they recovered vehicle debris at the scene, and while canvassing the surrounding neighborhood, were able to locate the suspect vehicle and person involved.
Leon Benton, 82, of Eliot, was arrested and charged with Leaving the Scene of a Personal Injury accident, a Class C crime.
The 13-year-old sustained injuries and was taken to the Portsmouth Regional Hospital.
Benton has a court date set for April 10.
