Maine health officials on Tuesday reported an additional 862 cases of coronavirus and 11 deaths over the previous three days.
Those numbers are from Saturday through Monday.
Maine CDC spokesman Robert Long said seven of those deaths were confirmed after a vital records review. They occurred in October.
On Tuesday, Maine CDC Director Dr. Nirav Shah said 216 people are hospitalized with coronavirus in Maine, an increase compared to two weeks ago when 203 people were hospitalized.
With the FDA giving the green light for use of Pfizer’s vaccine in children ages 5 to 11, Maine is preparing an allocation of 33,900 doses of the vaccine this week.
Final approval is still pending a review by the U.S. CDC this week.
According to the Portland Press Herald, Long said the first allocation would provide first doses to about 42 percent of Maine residents who would become newly eligible, with more allocations expected in the coming weeks.
