PORTLAND, Maine (AP) Transcripts of 911 calls that followed a deadly explosion in Farmington, Maine, underscored the gravity of the situation, and some initial confusion from callers about the blast’s precise location.

The 911 transcripts, obtained by The Associated Press under the Freedom of Access Act, indicate a flurry of calls from people whose homes shook when the LEAP Inc. building exploded, killing a firefighter and injuring others.

The transcripts indicate the sister of a deputy fire chief called to say he was among the injured _ and was waiting for help.

Firefighters were already on scene investigating a gas leak at LEAP Inc. when an explosion leveled the building on Sept. 16.

All told, about two dozen calls were made within minutes to communication centers in Farmington and Augusta.
