A Benton Woman Faces Assault Charges after Shooting

A 20-year-old woman faces assault charges after allegedly shooting a teenage companion in the neck.

The incident happened early Friday morning in Benton, when Hailie Hotham apparently shot a 19-year-old male.

Police say the shooting occurred after Hotham and the victim had been on a multi-day bender of alcohol and cocaine and were arguing.

The victim was taken to a hospital in Waterville and then airlifted to Maine Medical Center in Portland.

She was charged with domestic violence elevated aggravated assault, domestic violence aggravated assault, and domestic assault and was taken to the Kennebec County Correctional Facility.
