A child is dead after being found with a gunshot wound to the head.

Police responded to Pierce Street after they had received a call before 5:00 am on Saturday.

The child was then transported to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston where they were pronounced dead just after 7:00 am.

CBS 13 reports that officers say the Department of Health and Human Services have been notified.

The Lewiston Police Department, Maine State Police, and the Department of Health and Human Services are investigating.
