A Scarborough man is in custody after an hours-long standoff outside the Walmart on Wilson Street in Brewer Friday night as reported by our news partners WGME 13.
Patrick Mullen, 51, faces charges of possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, violation of bail, and creating a police standoff.
Brewer Police responded to the Walmart parking lot around 4 p.m. Friday for a disorderly call. During the incident, officers spoke with Mullen and discovered he had three active warrants for his arrest for failing to appear on a variety of criminal charges and also active bail conditions.
Police say Mullen became agitated and showed a firearm from inside his car to officers while threatening suicide. Officers secured a perimeter around the surrounding area, evacuated the parking lot and placed Walmart in lockdown.
The Special Response Team of the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office was brought in, and were able to successfully communicate with Mullen. The Maine State Police Tactical Team arrived and assumed tactical control of the scene.
The standoff came to an end just before 1 a.m. Saturday morning when police arrested Mullen, who suffered lacerations to his arm after a K-9 was deployed during the arrest.
He was taken to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center for treatment.
The investigation into the incident is still ongoing.
