A ground search that began Friday evening recovered two bodies of hikers on Door Mountain at Acadia National Park, Saturday morning.

The two hikers, one man, 28, and a woman, 30 of Rutland, Massachusetts are believed to have fell 100 feet on cliff bands that were ice covered. They were last heard from on Thursday.

Concern began Friday afternoon, when they did not check out of their hotel as scheduled or return to their vehicle. This prompted a ground search that involved the U.S. Coast Guard helicopter from Cape Code, and 15 other volunteers and park staff.

Searches on the ground found the bodies late Saturday morning.
