The American Civil Liberties Union of Maine has reached an agreement over services the state offers for those who can’t afford legal representation.

According to CBS 13 news, the ACLU sued the Maine Commission of Indigent Legal Services last year for providing inadequate legal representation for those who can’t afford an attorney.

Under the terms of the settlement, the state agreed to several reforms. Those include setting new performance standards and regular evaluations of its private attorneys who provide services for low-income clients.

According to the Maine Monitor, the settlement still needs approval from a judge.
