More than 900 Wells residents have signed a petition calling for the local police department to withdraw from its partnership with Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

The group Wells Democracy in Action says the partnership with ICE could harm the town and police department’s reputation, as well as the community.

The group delivered petitions to town leaders this week.

The department already paused its agreement with ICE last month, while a bill that could terminate the agreement is considered by the state legislature.
