PORTLAND, Maine (AP) There’s a new ad in the Maine U.S. Senate race, from Democrat Sara Gideon.

The ad claims that Republican Sen. Susan Collins used her power in public office to advance legislation to help her husband and his lobbying business.

An AP Fact Check finds that the accusation is unsupported.

Specifically the ad notes Collins voted for legislation to roll back a 3% withholding tax on government contractors.

What the ad doesn’t say is that the legislation was unanimously approved by the Senate and backed by Democratic President Barack Obama.

And this happened in 2011, the year before she married her husband.
