Aroostook County man charged with setting fire to former church building

Fire investigators have charged a man from Conner Township with arson.

Investigators responded to the scene of the fire Thursday afternoon at the building which was previously used as the Unitarian Universalist Church on Grove Street in Caribou. It’s now being used by Celebrate Recovery, a non-profit organization.

36-year-old Douglas Ouellette, whose family owns the building, was charged later that day with arson.

Ouellette was taken to Aroostook County Jail in Houlton with bail set at $25,000 cash. He was expected to appear in court on Friday.

Details about the extent of the damage to the building were not released.
