Mainers will soon have one less option for health insurance, as Mending Health, formerly known as Taro, is leaving the state next year.

The company has notified the Maine Bureau of Insurance that it will no longer offer health insurance in the state as of Jan. 1, 2027.

Mending Health currently 1,100 members, and the company says all of them will keep their health plans through the end of the year.

Four other insurance companies have submitted proposed rates for 2027, including Anthem, Community Health Options, Harvard Pilgrim and UnitedHealthcare. The Bureau of Insurance says it’ll finalize rates in August.

Mending Health has offered individual and small-group plans on Maine’s Affordable Care Act marketplace, known as CoverME.

Individuals and families who obtained Mending Health coverage through the marketplace or directly from the provider, can select a new health insurance company during the annual open enrollment period starting November 1, according to the bureau.
