Minot House Fire - Maine State Fire Marshall's Office

The State Fire Marshal’s Office says arson charges are expected against a 57-year-old man suspected of starting a house fire at 330 Garfield Road in Minot on Sunday.

Firefighters say a detached two-bay garage was destroyed and an adjacent home was deemed not habitable after receiving significant fire, heat, and smoke damage in the fire.

They say John Poulin knew the homeowner and was staying at the residence. He was taken into custody in connection with starting the fire and was later taken to a local hospital for an evaluation.

Poulin is expected to be arrested and charged with Arson upon his release.

Three people have been displaced by the fire.

There were no injuries, but vehicles and a motorcycle were damaged in the fire.

The Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office, Minot Fire Department, Poland Fire Department, Auburn Fire Department, and Mechanic Falls Fire Department assisted with the response and investigation of the fire.
