LIVERMORE FALLS, Maine (AP) The assistant fire chief in a Maine town has died in a three-vehicle crash.

Police said Leeds Fire Department Assistant Fire Chief Mitchell Adams, 56, died on Sunday in the crash in Livermore Falls. He was riding a motorcycle on Sunday evening when he was approaching a stopped vehicle and was struck from behind by another vehicle, the Sun Journal reported.

Police said they believe Adams was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, but the force ejected him from his seat and he died instantly.

The crash was still under investigation on Tuesday.

The Leeds Volunteer Fire Department said in a Facebook post that Adams “dedicated many years to our department and just recently accepted a promotion to assistant chief.”
