An astronaut who grew up in Maine will be heading to the International Space Station in September.
Jessica Meir was chosen by NASA in 2013 to begin the astronaut training class, according to the Portland Press Herald. She’ll stay in the ISS until next spring.
She graduated as valedictorian from Caribou High School in 1995, then earned her bachelor’s degree in biology from Brown University, as well as a master’s in space science at the International Space University in France. She also has a doctorate in marine biology.
